Staircase and light well are two core spaces in Chinese residential housing. Usually, they are regarded as negative parts and should be minimized into a concealed tube for economical purpose. However, those two parts actually contains the most frequent social contact, physically or visually.

Based on the study of staircase and lightwell in typical Chinese neighborhood, this project aims to rediscuss the essence of staircase and lightwell, both functionally and structurally, and apply it in the community center design.
